During 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th block, on February 6th, G&T Convocation will be taking place. Convocation is an event where 8th grade G&T (Gifted & Talented) students make presentations to show to their peers and students from 6th and 7th grade. Run by Mrs. Sweeney and conducted in the Media Center, the event was designed to give an opportunity to the 8th grade students in G&T to convene with other students and present information about a topic they chose.
Convocation is an event exclusive to Enrichment G&T, and presentations can be about virtually any topic. Past presentations include, but aren’t limited to: Biological weapons, Greek Mythology, Fast Fashion, and Mandela Effect.
Along with G&T students in the 6th and 7th grade, students from all classes are invited to join in on the event. It is an annual event, taking place on the first Friday of February every year.
The presentations are made on a tri-fold board. Along with the tri-fold, presenters make a video “trailer” for their topic and a Kahoot quiz based on the topic to be taken in 6th block. The 6th and 7th graders take a pre-test survey about the presentations in the weeks leading up to Convocation.
Overall, students really enjoy the event. Mrs. Sweeney, the organizer of the event, commented, “The presenters feel an amazing sense of accomplishment, and the 6th & 7th grade G&T students enjoy the opportunity to learn from their older peers.”
