The Amazing Digital Circus is an indie animation by Gooseworx but published by Glitch Production. It is fully streamable on YouTube and Netflix.
What it’s about
In each episode, there’s a new adventure and a new event. In the circus, there’s always something the ringmaster Caine has made for the circus members to make them not go insane and abstract. They enter the circus by putting on a VR headset and they suddenly arrive there, but once they put it on, they’re unable to take it off.
There are seven main characters, and almost every episode is based on another main character. When each character enters the circus, they forget their own name. Everyone (even Caine) is an AI character. The only characters that are real humans who did put on a headset are the main six and the abstractions.
The show is about how each character is stuck in the circus and tries to escape. Everyone that enters gets their brain data to be multiplied so they can enter the circus but still have the true copy of themselves outside of the VR headset living their daily lives. Meanwhile, the copied version of their brains has to deal with the constant torture of everyday adventures by Caine to prevent abstraction.
The Abstractions
Jayden V, a fellow classmate and fan, can confirm that Caine has no knowledge of human emotion. Many fans, including Stheicy V, think that abstraction is the key to escaping. It is not a true fact though; it’s just a theory.
While many characters are on the verge of abstraction, they still have to keep going to each adventure, up until episode 9 of course, when Caine finally deletes the second AI system in himself to make the circus better. That is when they can all make their own choices, gain some sanity, and have some peace.
Age rating
The show is rated 13+, but Stheicy V says “It’s 11+.” Jayden V says that he feels like it’s suitable “for people that are 10 and older.” It is rated 13+ because it involves psychological horror, unsettling imagery, stylized violence, and mature themes that are suitable for more of a mature audience. Yet, the Amazing Digital Circus can still be enjoyed by all ages.
