Subnautica takes place on a planet called 4546B. It’s a non-violent survival game developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Back around 2014-2015, the company was going bankrupt, but then became popular with YouTubers like Jacksepticeye, Markiplier and more.
In the game, there is a big ship called the Aurora but it crashed, so if you go near it, the iconic reaper leviathan known for its iconic scream and scary apparence, comes out. You play as Robin Robinson. He was a janitor on the ship that crashed, and he was lucky enough to get a life pod and land in the safe shallow, but the others didn’t. Robin had to go to dangerous areas like the Aurora, the lava cave, and more. In the game, if you decide to go out too far, there is a biome called the VOID. It’s iconic and included because there is a leviathan called the ghost leviathan, known for the scream and the appearance.
In Subnautica 2, you start off in a crash, but not like Subnautica 1, and you have to go in the lifepod to reach the surface. Once you reach the surface you can see this big tree; it’s very big, it’s even big when you are far away from it. But you can play as four different characters, but they aren’t human, they are printed to look like human, so when you die in the game, it says “being reprinted” as saying you are far in the future. But like the Aurora, if you go near the tree, there are shiver leviathans that destroy you instantly because the game is in early access.
Subnautica is a game that is mostly scary for people with thalassophobia, which is a fear of the deep waters. The story of Subnautica is when a ship called the Aurora crashed into the water with 157 people on the ship and about 29 to 44 people got on the lifepod but did not survive to the horrific and deadly sea creatures and life pod 5 was the only one that survived with Robin Robinson. About 128 to 143 people lost their lives instantly in the crash.
The only thing that makes Subnautica special is the fear of the unknown, meaning the fish in the water get scarier the deeper you go, so if you are new to the game and you go somewhere deep, you will regret it.
Noah, a sixth grader who plays the game says, “I find the reaper leviathan one of, if not THE, scariest leviathan in the game. If you are in the vanilla version then the reaper is the scariest, but it all depends if you’re playing modded or vanilla. But it is mostly said that it is the scariest leviathan in the game. In the lore, a lifepod called lifepod 4 was turned upside down then attacked by one, but the teeth pierced through solid metal…so if that’s not enough to scare you, then you can see what it looks like for yourself.”
