Volleyball is a sport enjoyed around the world. Since its creation in 1895, when it was designed as a less strenuous activity for players of all ages, the game has evolved into a competitive sport among elite athletes. Volleyball was invented on February 9th, 1895 by William G. Morgan.
Girls volleyball is really fun and if you’re competitive, this is the perfect thing for you. You go to competitions, play with your friends, and even if you lose, you had fun trying it. If you’re not that great at volleyball, you can learn from your mistakes and get better.
You can also get better by practicing with friends and/or family in your backyard, at an open park, in your driveway if it’s big enough, in an empty parking lot, or on an empty street where not that many cars pass by. You can learn more about volleyball so you can understand it more and have fun playing.
You can do beach volleyball, which is very popular and on sandy turf like a beach. Then there’s also hard court volleyball, which is in a gym.
Beach vs Hard Court
For beach volleyball, you play on a sandy turf like the beach or sometimes you may see a volleyball net in a big box of sand. This is versus hard court volleyball, which is played on a hardwood turf like a gym floor.
The game play in either type is that you serve the ball, passing the ball to the other players, as well as setting the ball, spiking, or blocking the ball. Players rotate clockwise on the court.
Beach volleyball has a team of 2 players on one side of the net and 2 players on the other side of the net. In hard court volleyball, there is a team of 6 on each side of the volleyball net.
In beach volleyball, there is no open-handed serving the ball, but in hard court volleyball, players use open-handed hits for the ball.
Beach volleyball shares the court evenly. In hard court volleyball, there’s a setter, libero, and the hitters who have to do a clockwise rotation every time they get the ball back from the other team.
For hard court volleyball, they use small leather balls, knee pads, ankle braces, and court shoes. Beach volleyball uses bigger, lighter balls, and they play barefoot or with special sand socks.
Hard court volleyball hits the ball powerful to get it over the net, with a quick-tempo attack, and they hit the ball open-handed, with back row attacks. Beach volleyball hits the ball with a cut shot, roll shot, pokey shot, knuckle/slam shot, and jumbo or tomahawk.
Some famous players are Gabi Gumarães (Brazil), Melissa Vargas (Turkiye), and Paola Egonu (Italy).
