Early January 2025 saw fires erupt in the west and snow and ice fall in the south and east. This phenomenon is all over the US right now. Most people up along the north end of the east coast, like New Jersey and New York, know how to deal with snow and ice, but people more down south like Texas and Louisiana don’t know what to do. Most people in the southern states don’t even have shovels to shovel up snow.
2025 might just be the craziest year ever with all this strange weather and these natural disasters happening in the first few weeks. The fire in California has spread so much you can see it from Mexico and even see smoke from space. The ice has spread so much with the snowstorm that it made its way into Texas and farther down south. At this point the middle of the US is in paradise.
The fire in California has devastated many people and caused many people to lose their homes. Many celebrities and famous people that lived in California are now living in hotels. Many of them lost a lot of money and family with some having to completely start over. Climate scientist Daniel Swain had a say on the fires. He stated, “It’s not just that drier conditions are perpetually more likely in a warming climate,” he said, “it’s that this oscillation back and forth between states is something that is particularly consequential for wildfire risk in Southern California.”
The ice from winter storms started spreading all the way to the east coast with the storm getting bigger and bigger. The storm spread all the way down to the south, where winter weather almost never reaches. Most people down there are ill-prepared because in the winter, they are used to temperate weather and never getting snow, so they have no gear or even shovels. Most people that have lived there their whole lives don’t even know how to drive in the snow. Jones, down in Texas, talked about the situation. “The last time we saw snow of this magnitude was way back in 1960, and prior to that, the previous snowfall record that even stands to this day was way back in 1895.”
Hopefully everyone stays safe everywhere and it gets better soon. Let’s hope that the fires get fully contained out west, and hope that the temperature warms up in the east and down south.
