On October 22, 2024 at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Real Madrid made a comeback to secure a 5-2 win during the second half of the game. Dortmund was in the lead in the first half, the score was 0-2 and in the second half, Real Madrid made a comeback and recovered, which was inspired by a Vinicius Jr. hat-trick. Antonio Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez also got on the scoresheet in another memorable night in Madrid.
The defending champions Real Madrid were in trouble at the interval after goals from Donyell Malen and Jamie Gittens had put Dortmund two up after an entertaining first half. But Real Madrid came flying out of the blocks in the second half.
Vinicius Jr. was the Blancos standout on the night, grabbing the second, fourth and fifth goals. Antonio Rudiger scored the first – heading home Kylians Mbappe’s cross, but it was Lucas Vazquez’s go-ahead strike that will stand as the lasting feature from a great night. Vinicius Jr. hit a brilliant hat-trick.
In an interview, Luka Modric (RM team player) said, “Definitely, Vini Jr. should win the Ballon d’Or but not just for tonight but all season, he was outstanding and we are looking forward to see who will win it, but I think overall, when you see how he played last season and what he is doing this season and specially after tonight, he deserves it”.
One of the biggest fan of Real Madrid, named Luis Villavicencio, said “That’s what we need from Vinicius Jr. Not constant hat tricks or even a goal each game. We need him to keep breaking defenders’ ankles. If he gets better at his 1v1s then goals and assists will always come.”
Something similar happened at the last UEFA Champions League final this past June 2024, after Dortmund dominated the chances in the first half, but as always Real Madrid found their way to comeback and win.
