The Annual Blue and White Challenge took place on January 31, 2025 at Fords Middle School, allowing students and faculty to play competitive and worthy basketball games during 5th and 6th block on a half day as a school fundraiser.
If you wanted to participate in the game, you could pay $10.00 to play on the student teams. You also got a blue or white t-shirt to wear in the game. If you wanted to watch the game on the bleachers, the cost was $5.00. You got the opportunity to buy snacks such as chips, cookies, and rice crispy treats.
All money raised is donated to the Elias Stevens scholarship fund in honor of a former FMS sixth grade student who lost a courageous battle against bone cancer in 2005. The scholarship is given to an FMS graduate who showcases the same determination, love of life, and dedication to community that Elias Stevens embodied.
One grade at a time got called to the gym from 5th block to put their items in their locker, buy snacks, and get their seats on the gym bleachers. 8th was called to the gym first, then 7th, and finally 6th grade.
The game was intense, with a lot of players falling, games getting tied up, and cheerleaders amping up the crowd and performing TikTok dances just for fun. Most of the kids on the bleachers joined in on the dances and chants. According to Christopher S, “It was pretty funny, but I wish there was more.”
The 6th and 7th grade players were mixed together and then separated into different teams: the Blue and White teams. The color of each team was the represented by the color of their t-shirts. The White team won against the Blue team, 36-26.
The 8th graders played against the teachers and tied 45 to 45. The 8th graders had white shirts and the teachers had blue shirts. Mrs. Murphy was the exception because she wore a sports Fords Falcons blue and white shirt.
