Have you ever wanted to play a sport that is active, but at the same time doesn’t make you want to pass out? Or have you ever wanted to just catch and throw with your friends on a field? If yes, then baseball is a perfect sport for you. Here are some facts about baseball.
First off, baseball is one of the most known sports in the world. Baseball is a great sport to play and watch. Some people have even made different versions such as wiffleball and blitzball. The main concept of baseball is to hit a baseball, run to the bases, and throw. There are 9 baseball players on defense trying to get the batter out. If the batter is safe, they will move on to the base they ran to without getting out. Once the other team gets three outs, the teams switch. Once they switch once to each part, that is one inning and they play from 3-9 innings, depending the level and age. Whoever scores the most runs by the end wins. If it is a tie, it will count as a tie until you turn a certain age, but when you get older, you have to play extra innings and score more runs.
Most teams below the eighth grade have around twelve players on their team who can play almost every position. Once you get to high school, you will have more players on the team, so you will have to choose if you want to pitch or play a position. If you choose to pitch, you won’t be in the lineup and won’t be able to hit that game, but if you are a fielder, you will be one of the batters for your team. If you are a DH, you just get ready to hit because you are a designated hitter. The choices of fielding are 3rd base, 1st base, 2nd base, shortstop, center field, left field, right field, and catcher.
You will need baseball gear such as long socks, a bat, a glove, a bag cleats, a batting helmet, and a jersey. Some extra protective and drippy equipment could be sliding mitts, elbow guard, hand guard, leg guard, batting gloves, baseball shades, eye black, arm sleeves, wrist tape, a towel, and wristbands.
