Greek mythology is very fascinating to me. Want to know why? I got into it because of an amazing, dramatic book series called Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.
Percy Jackson is a fascinating, dramatic book series. The main character, Percy, is the forbidden child of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea and earthquakes. Poseidon is one of the big three gods: Poseidon, Hades (god of death and the underworld), and Zeus (god of the sky, and king of gods).
In the first book, Percy is a 12-year-old student at Yancy Academy, a private boarding school in the Upper Hudson Valley. It starts when Percy is on a school trip to a museum. Then his bully, Nancy Bobofit, starts making fun of his dyslexia. As Percy approaches her, the water fountain behind her pulls her in, making her sopping wet. Nancy is overdramatic and blames Percy. When Percy’s principal calls down Percy and one other eyewitness to prove to him that Percy did not touch Nancy, Percy chooses his best friend, Grover B. Underwood. When the principal asked Grover what happened, well, you’ll never believe what happened! Grover also agrees with Nancy. Now you may think that Grover is a bad friend, but he is a satyr (half-goat, half-man) in disguise, waiting for the right time to take Percy Jackson to Camp Half-Blood, where Percy finds out that he is the forbidden child of Poseidon, god of water/ocean/seas/liquid, earthquakes, and horses, and that Grover isn’t 12 years old, but 28!
When Percy gets the news of Zeus is accusing him of stealing his Lightning Bolt, he receives a quest to find the Lightning Bolt with Grover and Annabeth, who is a “friend” that Percy met at Camp.
Does Percy come back alive or does he… DIE? Read Percy Jackson and the Olympians to find out what happens, and to find out about who is the ACTUAL Lightning Thief.
