During the Halloween season, it’s not unusual for kids of all ages to come home with buckets full of candy after a night of trick-or-treating. But do you check your Halloween candy before eating it?
There is a great amount of candy contaminated with drugs, and even altered to contain sharp objects like razor blades. There are many cases where kids have accidentally ingested drugs and have gotten extremely sick due to poisonous Halloween candy.
Parents always want the best for their children and would never want their kids getting hurt or being made sick by a small piece of candy. That’s why it’s so important to check all candy before eating. Parents of small children should check every single piece before allowing the kids to even touch it.
I interviewed my own mother, Yanil, to get her opinion on checking Halloween candy and she said, “ Because some may be opened, some people may put drugs or even needles or sharp objects like razors inside. Also, make sure they aren’t expired.” I fully agree with Yanil on this .
I also got to interview my older cousin, Brandon, who is also a parent. I asked “Why do you think it’s important to check your kids’ Halloween candy?“ Brandon’s response was, “It can be very unsafe for the kids because some people can put sharp objects in the candy or provide candy that is not kid-safe.” Brandon has a good point with this statement.
As this Halloween season comes to a close, remember to make sure that you check your candy before you eat it!
