Out of all the athletes I know, one stands out as being better than the rest. Pele is considered one of the greatest football players of all time.
He was born on October 23, 1940 in Brazil and grew up playing football on the streets barefoot. Pele was the first person to invent and score a bicycle kick. He won three World Cups, two World Club Championships, and nine Sao Paulo State Championships.
When he was little, he was poor and couldn’t buy soccer cleats, so he helped his mom at work. He played with older kids and against them in a tournament with his friends. They were always winning matches against the older kids too, but he did occasionally lose. His mom didn’t want him to play soccer, so he had to quit and when he got older, he always helped his dad.
A few years later, he made it onto a soccer team and he won three World Cups. Pele retired from professional football in 1977. Pele scored a total of 1,283 first-class goals, including 77 for Brazil. Pele inspires lots of players and is a legend around the world. He sadly passed away at the age of 82 on December 29, 2022 after a long illness. He was the best soccer player to ever live.
