Do you want to get a new pet? If so, you should get a leopard gecko! Leopard geckos are very good pets if you don’t want fur in the house, hairballs, or if you have allergies. Geckos are hypoallergenic, so if you or somebody in your house/apartment has allergies, geckos won’t be a problem. Although they don’t bring allergies, they do carry salmonella.
You should carry geckos with care because if you don’t, they can get scared/overwhelmed and might drop their tails. Instead of handling them without care, when you want them to get on you, you should slip your hand under their belly, giving them some nice support with your fingers and thumb. Geckos don’t take up a lot of space because instead of running around the house or backyard like most house pets, they live in tanks like fish.
They are not that hard to feed either. All you need to get/buy when trying to feed them are plastic tweezers, mealworms, waxworms, and live crickets. Nobody wants to touch/hold live crickets, mealworms, or waxworms so you should buy tweezers. You need to buy both the waxworms and mealworms because waxworms are only treats and not actual daily food, but mealworms and crickets are actual food. You have to alternate the two from different days. If you are scared of crawly critters but still want a gecko, then on a positive note, when they get about a year or two old, you don’t have to feed them daily.
Last but not least, when you buy their habitats, you need to get them three “hides” (little spaces to hide in). One of the three hides needs to have a wet paper towel in it so that they can shed in their hide. The second hide needs to have a heating pad in it with a heating lamp on top for when they feel cold. And lastly, the third one needs to be in the middle of its cage so it can feel hot and cold and not just one.
So all in all, if you want a new pet, you should get a leopard gecko!
