AI videos taking over social media

All round the world, many new videos have been going around the internet recently involving real and fictional people and they all are coming from AI. The companies behind all of this are Sora AI and Viggle AI. These videos have begun popping up on many social media platforms such as Tiktok, Instagram, and others. These videos include funny videos such as a dog running from the police but there is a bad side, such as people being put into bad videos, which some may not take well.

Sora AI and Viggle AI are free, but the free tier is not the best. There are different paid tiers and you get access to video templates. On Viggle AI, you have to take a picture or upload a picture, then you can choose the template and they will make the video. On the free tier, you have to wait a while for the videos to load, which is a problem for some. On Sora AI, the free tier is the most common access tier for invited users and includes the core features of Sora, with video lengths of up to 15 seconds. However, free usage is going to have limitations based on the availability. The paid tier, Sora 2 costs $200 per month and you can have longer videos, better quality, and better graphics. Both of these sites though can create videos involving influencers and you can basically make anything you want with them as long as they follow the guidelines set by the companies.

Now that we have covered the basics of the apps, there are some good sides to the AI videos that have to be talked about. One good thing about AI videos is that they are funny. On social media, there are many funny videos made by AI and they can easily make your day so much better just by seeing an AI video of your favorite athlete. The second thing that is good is how easy they are to make. Normal videos can take a long time to film and edit, which puts a lot of work on the creators who are making the videos. But with the new AI videos, creators can just put in a prompt, wait a few seconds, and they now have a new entertaining video without doing a lot of work. Another good thing about this is that they are easy to tell from real videos. Many people are concerned that these videos will create a bad environment online by making fake videos of people. The solution to this is that there is a watermark and the voices the AI software uses are very different from actual voices, making it impossible to make it convincing that someone did something that is not true. Overall, AI videos are a great addition to social media and many are excited to see what comes next with the advancements of AI.

There is also a bad side to the AI videos. One con is that you can impersonate people. They take famous people or even regular people and they post the video the AI program created. Even though there is a watermark, some people may not notice that while watching the video. This takes away their privacy. Imagine if you were doomscrolling on Instagram Reels and you see your face on your friend’s video doing a funny meme. Your friends and other people might think that it is very funny, but you think that it’s not funny and it ruins your privacy. If I had my face online and the comments are laughing and mocking me, I would be very angry, and so would you. Another con about the videos is that some may find them as something that takes no work to do since they are not good quality videos. If you have seen some of the videos on the internet or even on the news, the quality is terrible. When I see the videos, I don’t even know whose face is replacing the original person’s face. Another con is that they use up water. You might be thinking about how AI uses water. Well, they use it to cool down the use of AI. Since lots of people want clout and to get views, they abuse the use of AI.

I asked 8th grader Jayden C and this is his take on the AI Videos: “I personally really like the new AI videos. They are super easy to make and almost everybody can make them. With a good prompt and a little effort you can easily make a good video which I think is really cool.”
