On May 27, 2025, The Harry Potter franchise announced at a Warner Bros. discovery event that a new series of Harry Potter will be released in late 2026 or early 2027. The new series is going to happen because they felt as though the movies didn’t give as much depth to the books, so they will be doing that with the series.
The original Harry Potter movies consisted of 8 movies from 2001 to 2011. Although the movies were good, they did not contain all the scenes from the books. But the new series announced that they will include all the scenes from the books that the movies missed.
The actors for the Golden Trio, known as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, have been confirmed along with some other major characters in the show. Dominic McLaughlin will be cast as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. As for other characters, John Lithgow is playing Albus Dumbledore, and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.
Even if Warner Bros. promised these new scenes that weren’t in the movies, fans are still not pleased with this announcement because, based on fans’ words, no one really asked for a redo of Harry Potter.
A fellow Harry Potter enthusiast, Hristo G, shared his opinion on the remake announcement. He says, “I think it’s unnecessary because we already have an entire franchise of the books as films. In my opinion the classics can’t be replaced.” He also states that, “In general I think the cast is fine but most fans can’t imagine them taking these roles because we’re used to the old cast.”
In addition to this, a fellow Fords student, Anika D, shared her opinion on the show as well. She says, “I think it’s unnecessary because no one asked for a redo. The cast is just…bad in my opinion. We could’ve had a movie about the Marauders, Voldemort’s backstory, the sisters of House Black, or the Founders, but instead, we had a reboot that we never asked for.”
But even if this new series doesn’t please most fans, some are still quite happy that Harry Potter is back as it has been a part of many people’s childhoods. So this series will be highly awaited by most as it comes out in late 2026 to late 2027.
