From March 12 to April 9th, a road in a Canadian city will be blocked off so Jefferson salamanders can pass. This has been a tradition for many years. This happens because these salamanders are endangered, so people try to protect as much as they can. They have done this for the past 13 years.
They migrate to Vernal pools to breed in the spring. They are protected from a car hitting them or predators. I was talking to Zagorski and he happened to say, “So even one salamander being hit would have an impact.” This is very important to the Canadian people.
They are threatened species that are endangered because of global warming and people building homes where they live. So that is why it is necessary to do as much as they can to protect these Jefferson salamanders. I spoke with Lisbeth M and she thinks, “ I think this is very necessary because they are endangered animals and they need a way to travel safely from A to B.”
