In the U.S. during mid-March 2025, some classified information from a small government group chat was made known to the public. We know this information because one of the people mistakenly included in the Signal chat, Jeffrey Goldberg, is a journalist and editor-in-chief of The Atlantic.
The Signal chat exposed details of a planned attack against the Houthis in Yemen. The people involved in these plans were Vice President JD Vance along with top White House staff like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, CIA director Mike Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, among others.
According to CBS News, the chat “conveyed details of the timing and weapons descriptions of a planned attack against the Houthis in Yemen included the names or initials of 18 Trump officials and, of course, Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, who published his account of the message.”
Fellow classmate Abass commented, “I know that they leaked government secrets to the world that were not meant to be leaked.”
Within the chat, US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, revealed information including the launch times of F-18 aircraft, MQ-9 drones and Tomahawk missiles, as well as times when aircraft and bombs would hit their targets.
