Maccah McGhee, a sheriff’s deputy in Michigan, is suing Taco Bell’s franchisee for $5 million because a worker spat in her food on September 10th, 2024. She filed the complaint on February 27th, 2025.
McGhee serves in Calhoun County, and for lunch, she ordered a potato bowl for $2.59 from the Taco Bell in Albion, Michigan. Governor Cameron-Wayne Stovall served the food and denied that he spat on it. Instead, he said it was probably water, but later he said he may have sneezed on it. McGhee and her attorney insisted that a DNA test be conducted on the substance, and it did come out to be true that it was spit. The sample matched Stovall’s DNA.
Genesis, a fellow FMS classmate, explained her feelings on this situation. “I feel like that is very disgusting and anyone who does that should be fired because you are putting your germs and bacteria on other people’s food, which is nasty. If you are working in the food department, you should know not ever to contaminate others food because you wouldn’t want someone to do that to you.”
McGhee claimed that the whole situation caused her emotional distress, loss of enjoyment, financial loss, and mental anguish. She told Local News Channel 3 that, “I can’t just go comfortably eat anywhere. I’m a busy parent; sometimes I can’t always meal prep, and now, I have to starve all day, because I’m worried of someone tampering with my food.”
Brielle, a student at Fords Middle School, added her assessment of the situation as well stating, “I know that she is going to go to court soon, but I don’t really know the date.” The exact court date is set for August 5, 2025 and Border Foods is involved. Border Foods is owned by a Minnesota company that operates and owns the restaurant at 1440 N. Eaton St. in Albion.
In addition, McGhee contacted the Albion Department of Public Safety. She also confronted Taco Bell management, but the corporation dismissed it by saying that it was sour cream.
