Ever wondered about the perfect treat to start off your winter break? Well, students at FMS had an opportunity to start off their winter break perfectly because of this DEI organized event. It was a Krispy Kreme and hot chocolate fundraiser. Not only was there food, but there were also some pretty amazing activities. It all took place on December 20th during blocks 1-3 in the cafeteria, and if you wanted to attend, you had to pay a $5 fee.
Many people definitely loved the food part. I can tell you that I did! There was a plain glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut. Alongside this doughnut, there was hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was already amazing on its own, but students had the choice of adding whipped cream and/or marshmallows to make it taste even better.
While people sipped on their hot chocolate and ate their doughnuts, they were given the choice to do some fun-filled winter activities. There was doughnut ornament decorating, two snowflake ornament decorating areas, winter bookmark decorating, and card making for kids at the hospital. It was a great way to give back to the community and also have fun.
The atmosphere was also pretty great. When you walked into the cafeteria, you were surrounded by some winter themed music. The tables were also decorated with white table cloths.
Ms. Acosta provided some additional background about the fundraiser. “It was basically an extension of what we started last year. The Diversity Council had a theme of self-care, so we decided on doing the hot chocolate and donut Krispy Kreme fundraiser that’s just a way of treating yourself. It’s a way of basically showing that you care for yourself, so it’s an extension of our challenge-based learning project from last year.”
As mentioned before, this was organized by DEI, which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion and the Diversity Council is made up of students like myself. It is run by Ms. Acosta, Ms. Valentin, and Ms. Gallagher. The fundraiser that took place was a part of last year’s CBL (challenge-based learning) project. Every year, DEI does a CBL project to make positive impacts. Last year was mindfulness.
Overall, many students enjoyed this event and were able to start off their winter break on a delicious note!
