Fords Middle School is looking forward to hanging a championship banner in their gymnasium, thanks to the accomplishment of this season’s boys basketball team. Coach Brian Evangelista led the Falcons to victory in the championship game on Tuesday, December 18, 2024 to close out a phenomenal undefeated season.
The boys approached December’s championship game with determination and enthusiasm, aware that a perfect season was on the line. Their opponent, Avenel Middle, was formidable and brought their A-game that evening in the Colonia High School gymnasium.
The Fords Falcons struggled to gain momentum in the first half, trailing Avenel 27-22 at halftime. During the second half, the Falcons picked up the pace, as did Avenel. By the final seconds of the game, the score was tied 67-67. With no time to waste, FMS 8th grader D’Angel aggressively dribbled the ball down the court, passing to fellow 8th grader Jeremiah, who took it to the net for the winning two-point basket, closing out the game with a 69-67 victory.
Coach Evangelista had some powerful words about his players. “The Fords boys basketball team has made history for the 2024-2025 season. This is not Fords’ first basketball championship, but it is the first undefeated season in the history of the program. This dedicated group of boys not only won, but did so in an exciting fashion by coming back several times before taking the lead with only two seconds left on the clock. I could not be more proud of these boys playing their hearts out until the very last second came off the clock. I can only hope they keep that drive in every aspect of their lives.”
Congratulations to the Fords Falcons boys basketball team on a stellar achievement.
