Imagine a place where there is a man that dresses as a bat to terrorize criminals. Well, you’re imagining Gotham City.
The man I am talking about is named Bruce Wayne. He is a billionaire, charity worker, and philanthropist. Some say he is an overconfident man who has the best life, but under that facade, he is covering trauma that struck in his childhood. When Bruce was out with his parents, coming home from the theatre, a criminal sprung out of an alleyway, unironically called Crime Alley, and unfortunately shot both of his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, when they refused to hand over their belongings. After this cursed day, Bruce swore to stop crime so no other person out there would feel the pain that he did.
The death of Wayne’s parents made Bruce carry a burden that he could barely handle on his own. Luckily, he had the help from his butler, Alfred, who was his legal guardian now that his parents were gone. Fast forward many, many years. Bruce was training every day to learn how to fight. He trained so much that he was now a master at fighting. Not only did he train his body, but he trained his brain as well. Bruce was born a very gifted kid, he had a higher IQ from the rest of the kids his age which made him stand out. Bruce would use this “power” of his to become the” world’s greatest detective.” Anyways, the will of his parents left Bruce with a fortune, which he used to make himself a custom costume, build his parent’s company, and to gather equipment for the cave that was coincidentally right under his manor. This was the start of Bruce Wayne’s reign over Gotham. He donned himself the name “Batman” and he is controlling the crime rates every night.
Batman started off with simple crimes at first; he was stopping robberies and muggings, etc. But this caught the notice of the biggest, and baddest villains of all of Gotham. These villains consisted of The Penguin, Doctor Freeze, Two-Face, Clayface, The Scarecrow, and the baddest of all, the Joker. Almost every day and night, these criminals would start all types of hijinx, which of course, Batman had to stop.
The villains are a big part of Gotham, and you are probably wondering who each of those people are. First, The Penguin. His real name is Oswald Cobblepot. He is a short, fat man with a long nose, who wears a top hat, monocle, and a morning suit. He also carries an umbrella. The Penguin has a bit of an ego because he calls himself the number one “gentleman of crime” and he owns a nightclub named The Iceberg Lounge.
Next, Mr. Freeze. Mr. Freeze’s real name is Victor Fries and he was a scientist before he became a villain. Fries’ wife, Nora, got terminally ill, and the reason he turned to crime was to find a cure for her. This led him to madness, therefore allowing himself to do whatever he needed to save his wife. He uses cryogenic based powers to freeze his opponents and he must live in environments that are sub-zero.
After him is Two-Face. Two-Face is pretty unique; he is the only villain that has a sense of morality. Before Two-Face’s acidic accident, he was a lawyer named Harvey Dent. The reason I say that Two-face has a sense of morality is he bases all of his actions on a half scarred, half clean coin. If he flips the coin and it lands on the clean side, he will do good actions, but if it lands on the scarred side, he is going to pursue evil action.
Although this villain has a similar name, Clayface and Two-Face are entirely different. Clayface is a man made out of clay that can transform and shapeshift into what he desires.
Lastly, before the big guy, is Scarecrow. Scarecrow is my favorite Batman villain by far. Scarecrow, of course, takes the form of a scarecrow, and he releases a special toxin that induces fear in everybody, making them hallucinate their biggest fear.
I saved the biggest and baddest for last, The Joker. The Joker is a maniacal monster of a man that is wanted for basically every crime known. The Joker is the embodiment of evil, the clown prince of crime, and he is overall sick. He can do the worst possible thing in the world, and walk away with an uncanny grin on his face. Joker is a psychopath that deserves to rot in jail, but because of everybody’s fear for him, they would do what he pleased. This would cause the Joker to become Batman’s #1 villain.
Batman realized that these criminals kept getting away, and a grappler and his boots weren’t going to cut it. Because of this, Batman had single handedly developed a variety of different vehicles. These vehicles included the Batmobile, a car that was equipped with turrets and armor plates. It was basically a faster tank, The Batwing, a jet in the shape of the most noticeable part of his suit, his symbol. There’s the Bat Bike, a motorcycle that has a booster, and more. With these he was able to catch up to criminals faster, and always keep them on their feet.
In conclusion, Batman really inspires me because no matter what trials and tribulations he faces, he gets back up and tries again. I want to be just like him.
