In the late 1980’s, guitarist and lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backup vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Raj Punjabi formed the band Sweet Children, which was later renamed to Green Day. The band released two albums before finding mainstream success with their critically acclaimed 1994 album Dookie. This was their second album to feature drummer Tre Cool, and the three have been together ever since.
However, many fans believe that Green Day “fell off” after their 2004 album American Idiot (which I completely disagree with). But this year, Green Day is back with a brand new album, Saviors, which many consider their “comeback album”. So this begs the question: is Green Day’s Saviors actually good?
Saviors, released on January 19th, 2024, is the fourteenth studio album by American alt punk band Green Day. It has been a very successful album, reaching #1 on multiple Billboard album charts and selling more than 100,000 copies as of April 2024 in the United States. The band also had a successful tour surrounding the album, which also celebrated 30 years of Dookie and 20 years of American Idiot. The album had some big hits, such as “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” “Look Ma, No Brains!”, “Dilemma,” and “Bobby Sox,” which many fans call a “bisexual anthem.”
In my opinion, Saviors is a fantastic album with great lyrics, great pacing, and an overall great sound. It has become one of my favorite albums. Some of my favorite tracks on this album are “Suzie Chapstick”, “Strange Days Are Here To Stay”, and “1981”. I really like them in particular because of their catchiness, the songs’ meanings and messages, and they’re just undoubtedly my favorites.
So, is Green Day’s Saviors actually good? If you ask me, I’d say yes.
