On Friday, October 25th, during Blocks 5 and 6, Fords Middle School hosted a Pink Out event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All funds raised from the Pink Out were donated to Metavivor, a Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was organized by the FMS Student Council, and featured Mr. Sikora, who is well-known at FMS for his skills both in the science lab and behind the DJ booth. The Fords Middle School cheerleaders kicked off the event with an energetic and powerful cheer.
The event had a $5 admission fee for students. All 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students gathered in the cafeteria. As they entered and exited, the cheerleaders performed an FMS cheer, showcasing school spirit during the FMS Pink Out. Their 7th-grade science teacher, Mr. Sikora served as the DJ, keeping the energy high with hits like “The Macarena,” “Lip Gloss,” and a fan favorite, “F!EN.”
Teachers spun a wheel to select students from each grade to participate in fun activities. The winners of these competitions got the chance to spin another wheel for exciting prizes, like candy, a movie with popcorn, and even a spot on Jenkinson’s Boardwalk field trip later this year!
At the end of the event, the teachers were surprised with their very own FMS Hot Ones challenge! Teachers like Ms. Boyko, Mr. Taber, Ms. Murphy, Ms. Arellano, and Ms. Furrevig took on the spicy challenge. In the end, it was Ms. Boyko, the 8th-grade science teacher, who proved she could handle the heat!
Overall, The Pink Out event was primarily aimed at raising awareness and funds for Metavivor, but it also provided students with a break from their classes for an afternoon. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to Metavivor!
